The Internet Is Freaking Out Over This Sneaker Hack
Most athletic sneakers have foam around the bottom, which helps you get that extra spring during your workout. But you’ve probably noticed that after a while, they get creased, leaving your shoes looking worn out. Now, a Redditor is sharing an awesome trick to getting out those wrinkles—and it’s way easier than you’d think.
Reddit user PartyxDirtyDan shared a photo of his sneakers before and after, and revealed that he used a blowdryer on the foam of his shoes. The difference is amazing: In the before shot, the shoes look pretty worn; in the after, the foam is super-smooth and looks brand new.
To mimick the hack, PartyxDirtyDan says you need to heat spots with a hair dryer for about a minute at a time before moving on to another section. “Switch off on the areas you work on to make sure you don’t melt the glue on the outside and upper,” he writes in the thread on r/Sneakers. “I just did a few rounds on each spot and it turned out great.”
The dryer also needs to be on hot, he points out, since you’re essentially ironing the foam with hot air. After you turn your dryer on your shoes, don’t put your fingers in the hot areas until they’ve cooled, or you’ll risk leaving an imprint, he says, admitting that it’s “a tedious process.”
Just make sure you only try this on sneaks that don’t have painted soles—the dryer might melt the paint, PartyxDirtyDan says, leaving you with a mess.
If you want to make your shoes look a little newer, it’s definitely worth a try.
