Biggest Loser Star Michelle Bridges Busts Major Fitness Myth
We’ve all heard the old cliché ‘summer bodies are made in winter.’ But as far as fitness mogul Michelle Bridges is concerned, this way of thinking is seriously outdated.
“I’m over it!” she told 9Coach. “I think it’s BS.”
And her reasoning totally makes sense. While the saying is supposed to motivate us to stick to our workouts once the temp starts to plummet, we should be encouraged to maintain healthy habits all year round.
“No one is motivated to get up at 5am when it’s 10 degrees outside and raining,” she said. “I don’t know anyone who [sees that and] goes, ‘Woo! Yeah! All right!’”
“What will get you through winter are your habits, your routines and your rituals.”
In addition, the 47-year-old doesn’t believe in setting a time limit to achieve your goals – for example, “you have to be this by that date.” Instead, she prefers to take each day as it comes.
“I know from my own experience of exercise – I’ve done it since I was 14 and I’m now 47 – that when I’ve got routine, habits and rituals, I live in the moment rather than projecting to the future or living to the past.
“So, this is what we do on Monday, this is what we do on Tuesday, this is what we do on Wednesday.”
She also believes that sticking to a regimented fitness routine not only majorly benefits your body, but also your mind too.
“If you want to be calm, [have] less anxiety, have more clarity, [and] a better understanding of who you are, find your rhythm,” she explained. “Everyone’s rhythm is going to be different. But find yours and them work it out and craft it and own it.”
