This Cyclist Just Turned an Empty Gym Into His Personal Stunt Course

Whenever Red Bull-sponsored cyclist Danny MacAskill drops a new video, you know you’re guaranteed to experience some YouTube gold. In his previous videos, the Scottish pro athlete has shown off his ability to make virtually any type of terrain into his personal playground—whether he’s performing death-defying rides along Scotland’s Isle of Skye, or traversing the rooftops of Spain’s Gran Canaria.

In his latest episode posted earlier this week, however, MacAskill chose a far less dramatic, but also more familiar setting for people emerging from the post-holiday fog: the gym. In a five-minute video, MacAskill hits the gym and performs all manner of backflips, hops, and wheelies, and 360s while astride his trusty Santa Cruz Trials bike, which also made a memorable appearance in The Ridge.

By some miracle of balance and core strength, MacAskill manages to hop across a series of dumbbells and weight plates stacked in a row like dominoes, followed by a front flip over a giant stability ball that would leave a normal human in a neck brace. In another “you just have to see it” moment, MacAskill does a gravity-defying 360-degree spin across a series of step boxes stacked on top of foam rollers. In other words, it’s a gym manager’s nightmare.

While the stunts may lack the sweeping, epic backdrops of his earlier videos, the whole thing is still a lot of fun to watch. Be sure to check out the credits sequence, too, for a more humbling montage of all the times MacAskill didn’t stick the landing.

Now if only Danny could tell us where we can find a gym this empty in January.
