In the best news we’ve heard all day, a study has proven that champagne is linked to good health, in particular, in preventing the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Even better? The research specifically states that not one, but three glasses per day will do the trick.
It turns out, the compound – phenolics – found in grapes which are used to make champagne, pinot noir and pinot meunierm, acts to ward off brain disease and even increases spatial memory.
Professor Jeremy Spencer, who conducted the research at Reading University in the UK, says of the study: “This research is exciting because it illustrates for the first time that moderate consumption of Champagne has the potential to influence cognitive functioning such as memory.”
However, before we get three glasses ahead of ourselves, a spokesman for the Alzheimer’s Society has said that while the results are interesting, we shouldn’t start celebrating yet.
“This is the first time a link between champagne and dementia risk reduction has been found. A lot more research is needed.”
The next step in proving the results is a trial in which 60 pensioners will be asked to drink champagne each day for three years. Ah-ma-zing.
