6.15am Before a day of filming, I do a 45-minute session at Cycle Collective, then have sourdough toast with vegemite, a long black and a smoothie.
10am Half a kilo of fresh peas in the pod.
12.30pm Lunch today is a pizza with extra spicy Italian sausage, plus two glasses of riesling.
2.30pm After exploring Books for Cooks near Melbourne's Victoria Market, I walk back to South Yarra. It's earned me a pork taco and a michelada.
6pm I meet my mate, restaurateur Scott Pickett, for two wines, smoked lamb's ribs, tartlet of salmon roe, ox tongue and some clair de lune oysters. Sublime.
8pm It's back to the CBD for soup buns [dumplings] by the dozen, washed down with a couple of beers.
Dr Joanna McMillan says:
Top marks for … Starting the day with an intense exercise session. You ate and drank a lot, and this will help to offset it. However, be careful: it's far easier to consume excess kilojoules than it is to burn them off through exercise. The fresh peas were a fabulous, nutritious snack, though!
If you keep eating like this you'll … Risk weight gain as you age and fail to fuel a healthy microbiome, as your day has very few fermentable fibres. This can impact gut health, blood cholesterol and glucose control, the immune system and the brain.
Why don't you try … Choosing more vegie dishes and aim for them to comprise half of the meal; for example, opt for vegie toppings on pizza, then add a green salad or top with rocket. Watch your portion sizes and your alcohol intake, ensuring at least two alcohol-free days a week.
