Walking route: River Yare, Norwich

Walk in a nutshell

This invigorating jaunt begins in a built-up area of town, but you’ll be zipping down green country lanes in no time.

Directions

1. Begin at the start of Marston Lane at the junction with Ipswich Road.

2. Walk down the lane and turn left through the wooden gates. Go along the path, through the kissing gates.

3. At the river, turn right and continue on the path, through kissing gates. The path goes away from the river and joins it again where a line of poplars and another kissing gate come into view.

4. Go straight and follow the path along the railway line as it passes under a wicker archway. Go down the steps.

5. Turn right away from the railway crossing and walk up the rough track.

6. Turn left at the T-junction along Church Lane.

7. Near the end of Church Lane, turn left and walk towards the thatched church.

8. Go through the gap into the supermarket car park. Head across, towards the road. Just before reaching the road, turn right into the Red Lion car park. Turn right out of the car park and head towards the traffic lights.

9. At the lights turn right along Church Lane. Further along it becomes Marston Lane. Ignore a turn left further along which says Marston Lane.

10. Where the road bends left keep straight ahead along a narrow hedged lane towards the start of the walk.
