Running blog: How was your Christmas running?
So how has your festive running been so far? Completing my advent streak, I’ve run every day in December and am feeling rather below par. A combination of viruses and sleep deprivation (thanks, small fry) have taken their toll, though I’ve not had a rest day yet. Should I keep going just to finish off the month? Keep going into 2015? I can see the lure of these year long streaks now …
On Christmas day I dragged my husband out for a festive 8.5 miler. Alas we couldn’t find Santa hats to run in, but we did greet everyone with a cheery “Merry Christmas”. And what beautiful weather for it – a sunny, crisp winter’s day along the Thames.
On Boxing Day I took part in my running clubs social run, which finishes with mince pies and mulled wine. And on New Year’s Day I’ll be doing the Knacker Cracker – a 10km run up and down Box Hill. “Almost certainly the toughest 10k in Britain!” proclaims the website. Gulp.
Last year’s atrocious weather meant a sign on the course blew away leading to a shorter course. So they’ve added extra on this year, which seems rather unfair on those of us who weren’t actually running last year. Apparently it’s only about an extra 400m, but 200 extra steps … Ouch.
So how was your festive running, have you burned off all the Christmas pud? I’m not even close to burning off the amount of panettone I’ve scoffed …
