PSA: HIIT Workouts Might Not Be The Best Way To Reach Your Weight Loss Goals
It’s no secret High-Intensity Interval Training is having a bit of a moment on the fitness scene right now. It torches fat, improves endurance, boosts your mood and builds strength, in 30 mins or less.
But it turns out HIIT training isn’t the be-all and end-all when it comes to weight loss.
According to a new study, it’s actually the caloric expenditure of your sweat sesh, not the intensity, that determines fat reduction. In fact, Moderate-Intensity Continuous Training (MICT) – such as running – can be just as effective as HIIT.
The deal breaker?
You just have to do it long enough to burn the same amount calories.
So, if you’re time poor and willing to go seriously hard, stick with the short-burst/short rest style workouts; you’ll get way more out of it than you would on a run for the same amount of time.
But for the walkers/bike riders/yogis and swimmers amongst us, fret not. Anything that gets your heart rate up is still getting you closer to smashing those weight loss goals.
