Coronavirus: researchers have been testing successfully for the first time a vaccine

In the fight against the novel Coronavirus teams of Scientists working around the globe under high pressure on the development of a suitable vaccine.

Now a team of researchers from China could be managed, in fact, a crucial breakthrough – a so-called Inactivated vaccine.

In this type of vaccine is an injection with killed pathogens or components of these. In the human body, these pathogens are recognized as foreign and the immune system reacts.

Corona-immunity by Inactivated vaccine

As the study in the journal ‘bioRxiv’ published, shows, on buildings in monkeys after injection with this Inactivated vaccine an immunity to the Coronavirus.

The vaccine, the research team led by Qiang Gao, eleven viral isolates from Covid-19-patients from countries with a high case rate of illnesses, such as Spain or Italy.

In a laboratory procedure, the viruses were propagated, then the tribe with the strongest growth was then chemically inactivated and purified.

The resulting vaccine was found with the name ‘PiCoVacc’.

A similar disease course as in humans

After this was first tested on mice and rats and these animals had formed an immune response, decided to the researchers, Tests on monkeys.

For these studies, the scientists for the Rhesus monkey decided, since this type developed in the case of infection with SARS-CoV-2 similar to the symptoms of the disease such as the human organism.

In the study, ten animals at a distance of seven days, received three times either a Placebo or the vaccine. Then an injection with the corona virus followed.

Corona vaccine: Clinical studies should follow

The result of the power of hope: The monkeys that had previously received the highest dose of the vaccine, thus formed, many of the neutralizing antibodies that they were protected against Corona-infection.

The scientists in their work, also that the examinations are no serious side effects, such as a Covid-19 typical Overreaction of the immune system.

Since the results of the study are so positive, the scientists now in clinical trials to the vaccine.
