The most popular sleep myths what is really there?
Sleeping has something magical. We still know only a fraction about how it works and why – it’s no wonder that many sleep myths over the years have developed. Although we may attempt to decrypt the bedroom with the help of science and, more recently, with various Apps and Wearables, but so really do not succeed to us. With the help of our experts, we try to analyze three of the most popular sleep myths, and so, literally, in the Dark.
Sleep myth #1: The sleep you get before midnight is the Best
“This is a myth, something is really off. It doesn’t matter what time we go to bed, it is important that it corresponds to our Chronotype,” explains sleep researcher Dr Hans-Günter Blind. “There are larks and owls, so the Early-to-bed-goer and the Late-to-bed-goer. For most of us, Chrono is seen biologically, the time after midnight is the best time to sleep.”
From whence, then, this widespread myth? As is so often the case with such beliefs, it contains a core of truth: the one Who sleeps before midnight, go to bed early and get probably more sleep than the one that embeds itself only after midnight to rest. Sleep myth #2: full moon of the sleeping worse
“You can sleep on a full moon, worse, is nonsense – the moon is always there, you only see him as a new moon, Crescent, Half, or full moon. There is not a single reputable study that makes a connection between a full moon and bad sleeping,” says Blind.
In this myth we have to do it, according to him, especially with two typical human psychological effects: this is the selective perception – many of us, about 30 per cent, have a fragile sleep, sleep, so, sometimes better, sometimes worse. If you sleep so bad and Wake up, then to the window, looks out, and a full moon, to make fast a connection: Oh, no wonder I have a bad sleep, it is a full moon! In the nights when we sleep well, we don’t see the full moon because we sleep.
The second psychological effect is the famous self-fulfilling prophecy. “If I know that the next night a full moon is in the sky and I think that I sleep bad, I’m already quite tense to bed and sleep thanks to this expectation might be actually bad.” (Also interesting: Short night? Sleep myth #3: catch up on sleep
“This statement is also more than a sleep myth, and also a remains. Catch up on sleep doesn’t work for that reason alone, as we experience the first negative effects such as fatigue, lack of concentration and irritability right after a night with too little sleep. These immediate effects are, therefore, not influenced.” His sleep account, you can’t imagine how a Bank account to which you Deposit a large amount to the debt balance. Current studies show that it is even counterproductive to sleep on weekends, much longer than during the week. “We need a stable sleep rhythm, to feel well and rested,” says Dr. Blind. Many also know from my own experience: you, for example, on Sundays, until eleven o’clock or longer, you are recovered rarely well – in fact, the day felt completely gone. Therefore, the expert recommends to sleep on weekends only for up to an hour longer, and to go during the week regularly to bed earlier. “So it comes easily to the seven to eight hours of sleep that most people need on average to be well-rested to Wake up,” says the expert.
A sure sign that you have had enough sleep is if you Wake up without an alarm clock. After all, who is torn by the ringing of the sleep, which had not completed its sleep phase and the myths definitely falls into the category of Sleep. There is also the so-called Snooze does not help then usually press the snooze button, only to be then a few minutes later, once again, rudely to the get Up reminds. To avoid this, should you always prefer a bit of sleep myth #1, and before midnight, go to bed, if you have to the next Morning, get up early. (Also read: cigarettes, alcohol, or coffee?
