Steph Claire Smith Gets Real About Her Cellulite Insecurities
A quick scroll through Steph Smith’s Insta will tell you three things: she’s seriously fit (we’re talking cheese grater abs), got the cutest dog ever (‘sup, Ari!) and, she keeps it real (as evidenced by her latest post.)
In an effort to show that she – just like us – battles with crippling insecurities from time to time, the 24-year-old model shared some unflattering snaps taken on a recent bikini shoot.
“Found these pap photos online and I thought I’d share them alongside some thoughts of mine,” the caption read.
“I’d like to admit that although I love myself, I am proud of myself, and I love my body – I still have insecurities, one of those is my legs, my cellulite.”
In one of the pics, Steph poses for the camera in a one-piece, some subtle dimpling on her upper thigh. In the other, she bends down to pat a dog with the side of her butt facing the camera. As she points out, both the angle (and the lighting) aren’t doing her any favours.
“These pics were taken in the middle of the day when the sun was at its highest and it’s never really flattering on anyone!” she continued. “But all that aside, I wanted to share it with you because I don’t want you to think I’m perfect, or that I think I’m perfect. What I’ve learnt over time is that nobody thinks that.”
“It’s okay to have insecurities but it’s important to appreciate your body and focus more on what you love than those insecurities that seem to stick out to you. Next time you go to put yourself down on something society has told you is a ‘flaw’, compliment yourself instead.”
This isn’t the first time the Keep It Cleaner co-founder has opened up about her journey to body acceptance. Not long ago, she purposely avoided exercising in shorts during the day.
“I never used to appreciate my body for what it was and what it could do, and always got so stuck on things I wanted to change,” she said. “Every feature of mine whether they’re an insecurity or not make up who I am so I’ve accepted them. And you should too.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves Steph. Thanks for being such an inspiration.
