Pfizer vaccines have been dished out across the UK at an incredible speed over the past six months. But some people have reported unwanted side effects after having their first and second jabs of the vaccine.

The Pfizer/BioNTech Covid vaccine is a type of active immunisation against COVID-19.

It works by triggering the body’s natural production of antibodies, and stimulates immune cells to protect against coronavirus.

The coronavirus vaccine remains the best way to avoid becoming seriously ill with Covid, and everyone that’s eligible should get jabbed.

However, you might develop some side effects after having the vaccine.

All vaccines could cause side effects, whether it be a Covid vaccine or a flu jab.

Not everybody will get them, and there’s no real way of knowing if you’re at risk.

But, if you do develop side effects, they’ll likely only last a few days – and it’s still worth enduring for the added protection against Covid.

They can also be treated using over-the-counter painkillers – paracetamol, for example.

There are eight side effect symptoms of the Pfizer vaccine that have been deemed “very common” by the UK government.

That means they tend to affect more than one in every 10 people that gets the vaccine.

The side effects include tiredness, muscle pain, headaches, and pain at the site of the injection.

If you have a fever that lasts longer than three days, or your other side effect symptoms won’t go away, it’s likely that another condition is causing the symptoms.

“Most side effects are mild or moderate and go away within a few days of appearing,” said the government.

“If side effects such as pain and/or fever are troublesome, they can be treated by medicines for pain and fever such as paracetamol.

“Some people have reported a sudden feeling of cold with shivering/shaking accompanied by a rise in temperature, possibly with sweating, headache (including migraine-like headaches), nausea, muscle aches and feeling unwell, starting within a day of having the vaccine and usually lasting for a day or two.

“If your fever is high and lasts longer than three days, or you have other persistent symptoms, this might not be due to side effects of the vaccine and you should seek appropriate medical advice according to your symptoms.”
