Miley Cyrus Just Revealed Liam Hemsworth Is Having Some Serious Health Problems
Miley Cyrus isn’t just standing by her man—she’s walking the red carpet on his behalf as he recovers from kidney stones.
According to People, actor Liam Hemsworth, 29, skipped the premiere of his new romantic comedy Isn’t It Romantic in Los Angeles on Monday—in addition to the Grammy Awards on Sunday—after being briefly hospitalized with kidney stones. He’s reportedly at home resting “and will be fine,” according to People’s source.
So, Miley, 26, took over Liam’s red carpet duties at the premiere, arriving in a stunning red Maison Valentino gown and matching red lip (seriously, I’m swooning over here).
Miley posted several photos from the premiere on Instagram: “So proud of my hunky hubby @liamhemsworth & his newest movie #IsntItRomantic ❤️ He unfortunately wasn’t able to attend due to health reasons… but he is recovering and taking this time to rest / heal,” she wrote. “It’s hard for entertainers to put themselves before the project but this time it was crucial …. I am proud to represent him and his incredible work. So happy to see him shining in this comedy! He is the funniest person I know , and the world now gets to see the Liam I wake up to every day…. luckiest 💋”

Liam also took to Instagram on Monday night to apologize for missing the premiere and give kudos to his supportive wife. “Sorry I couldn’t make it to the @isntitromantic premier tonight guys,” he wrote. “Been dealing with some pretty annoying health stuff the last couple days. Lucky I have the best girl in the world to represent for me! Thanks for the support babe! I hope everyone enjoys the movie! It’s a perfect Valentine’s Day flick so if ya ain’t got nothin better to do then go see it! Love to all!”

Can you remind me what kidney stones are again?
According to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), a kidney stone is “a hard object that is made from chemicals in the urine.” As these chemicals crystalize, they attract other elements and the object gets larger and larger (anywhere from the size of a grain of sand to a golf ball) until it’s passed through the urine. If it isn’t passed, it can cause a urine back-up, leading to swelling and often intense pain.
Symptoms of kidney stones include pain in the lower back, groin, or abdomen. Other possible symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and fainting; and urine that’s bloody, cloudy, or smells bad, per the NKF.
Once a physician diagnoses a kidney stone there are two treatment options: let it pass naturally (i.e. through your pee) or treat it surgically. Typically, if a stone is less than seven millimeters in size, doctors will give it a chance to pass. Larger stones are typically a candidate for surgery.
Men are more prone to kidney stones than women: One in five men will get one in their lifetime (compared to one in 10 women), per the NKF.
Here’s wishing Liam a speedy recovery—and for more smokin’ red carpet pics from Miley. Get it, girl.
Isn’t It Romantic, which also stars Rebel Wilson, Adam Devine, and Priyanka Chopra, hits theaters on February 13.
