High blood pressure symptoms: The unusual sign on your fingernail to watch out for
Blood pressure naturally goes up and down throughout the day and night and it’s normal for it to go up while one is moving about. It’s when the overall blood pressure is consistently high, even when resting, that a person needs to do something about it. High blood pressure puts a person at risk of heart, stroke and other complications.

The half-moon shape at the base of the fingernail is known as a lunula. Lunula cover the bottom of the nail, just above the cuticle.
Lunula are part of the nail matrix and the matrix refers to the tissue just beneath the nail.
It contains nerves, lymph and blood vessels. It also produces the cells that become the hardened nail plate.
Although everyone has a nail matrix, not everyone will see or have a lunula on each nail.
Those who do have a lunula may notice that they vary in appearance across each nail.
What many are unaware of, is that the lunula can indicate any health risks that could be a cause for concern.
A middle finger without lunula can indicate high blood pressure vascular problems.
The ring finger is connected with the reproductive and lymphatic systems.
A ring finger with barely visible lunula can also indicate digestion problems.

The British Heart Foundation said: “There isn’t always an explanation for the cause of high blood pressure, but most people develop high blood pressure because of their diet, lifestyle or medical condition.
“Sometimes high blood pressure runs in families and can worsen with age.
“Factors that increase a person’s risk of getting high blood pressure include drinking too much alcohol, smoking, being overweight, not doing enough exercise or eating too much salt.”
Other symptoms of high blood pressure include blurred vision, nosebleeds, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness or headaches. Many people with high blood pressure feel fine.
But even if a person feels fine, they should still have their blood pressure regularly checked.
If a person is a healthy adult aged over 40, it’s highly recommended to get your blood pressure checked at least once every five years.
