The difference, however, is that Grana Padano cheese contains bacteria that’s particularly beneficial for hypertension patients.

Nutritionist Dr Sarah Brewer said: “Eating Grana Padano – a type of Italian cows’ milk cheese – is one of the best natural remedies for high blood pressure.”
She wrote on her website, MyLowerBloodPressure.com: “As some hard cheeses ripen, the breakdown of milk proteins produces peptides that lower blood pressure in a similar way to ACE inhibitor drugs.
“This effect is due to the presence of beneficial, probiotic strains of Lactobacillus helveticus bacteria, and is most pronounced in Grana Padano after it has aged for nine to twelve months.
“If your blood pressure is raised it seems a good idea to substitute Grana Padano for other hard cheeses such as parmesan or even Cheddar.”
Grana Padano is perfect for grating over vegetables, salads, or pizza.
For the perfect hypertension meal, consider making your own pasta dish that also contains a tomato and garlic sauce.
Garlic contains powerful sulphur compounds that help to dilate blood vessels.
Relaxing the smooth muscle cells around the blood vessels could subsequently lower your blood pressure.
