British GPs are among the best paid in the Western world with most earning more than £100,000, a major report reveals.
Family doctors are paid more than three times as much as the average Briton, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
The report reveals only Germany pays its GPs more than Britain when compared with the rest of its citizens. Yet the UK is struggling to hold on to its family doctors.

According to NHS Digital, self-employed GPs across Britain were paid an average of £109,100 in 2017/18 – up 3.5 per cent on the year before. Salaried GPs were paid an average £58,400.
Experts last night said they fear for the future of general practice in Britain as the number of surgeries in operation hits an all-time low.
Gaetan Lafortune, health expert at the OECD, said: ‘The differences between the UK and other countries are very striking, particularly when we you look at how many GPs are leaving the profession much earlier than in other countries.’
Self-employed GPs – those 80 per cent of family doctors who are partners in their surgery – earn 3.1 times the average national salary, the second highest out of 12 developed countries compared by the OECD.
In 2017 salaried British GPs received 1.7 times as much as the average worker but less than in most countries. Nurses, meanwhile, are paid the same as the average salary for Britain – roughly £35,000.

The UK has just 2.8 doctors of all specialisms per 1,000 people – the second lowest in Europe.
