Taking A Flight? You Should Do These Stretches On The Plane

We know you’re all over the get-up-and-walk-around memo when it comes to plane travel (it’s all about keeping your blood circulating as it should).

But, for those times it’s not so easy to roam the aisles (read: your neighbour’s out cold or there’s an epic queue for the bathroom), show your body some love at 30,000 feet with these stretches from Hannah Geelan, physiotherapist at Melbourne’s Total Balance Physiotherapy…

Pelvic tilts

Gently arch your back, rolling your pelvis forwards then roll back into your chair, flattening your back. Repeat 10 times.

Calf raises

Lifting up onto your toes and slowly lower. Do this 10-20 times, on both legs or one at a time.

Lean forward and slowly stand up. Poke your bottom out and slowly sit back down. Repeat 10 times.

Child’s pose

Reach onto the chair in front of you, tuck your chin down and relax back into your chair to stretch the muscles along your spine and open up your mid-back.

Thoracic rotation

Standing side-on to the toilet door, stick your left hip and heel into the side of the door. Place your arms on either side of the door and gently pull yourself into mid-back rotation. Repeat 10 times on each side. Happy travels!
